Set in 19th century France, THE LAST MISTRESS chronicles the compulsive love affair between a tempestuous Spanish women and an upper-class, profligate young man. This lushly beautiful and sensual period piece by controversial director Catherine Breillat is perhaps the most sexually frank costume drama ever made. The movie goes through the lovers’ meeting, their long affair, and the young man’s attempt to sever ties after his marriage.
