Crazy Heart – USA -1 hr 52 min – Scott Cooper
Jeff Bridges is the whole show in this drama about a washed-up country music singer reduced to playing small town bars and bowling alleys. Genuine and real, this is one of his finest performances ever. The music and the movie-making are outstanding as well, and Maggie Gyllenhaal, Colin Farrell and Robert Duvall (with a nod to Tender Mercies) all give compelling performances.

Coming to the Ambler Jan 29th. (Also winner of two Golden Globes – Best Actor Jeff Bridges and Best Song)
Relatively glaring screenplay errors can be forgiven due to the strong acting and soundtrack. Maggie Gyllenhaal isn’t bad (surprise!) and is cute (not a surprise!), hit-or-miss Colin Farrell is surprisingly strong, and of course Bridges deserves the Oscar (I really don’t understand the Clooney love). The soundtrack is great and incredibly catchy (I think I’ve had “Fallin’ and Flyin’” in my head for two straight weeks).
