LOVE is a stunning Italian film, which stars Tilda Swinton as a Russian who has married into a wealthy, upper-class Italian family. Before long, though, she falls into a passionate affair with a young chef. This highly stylized melodrama, which recalls both Visconti and Sirk, luxuriates in beauty, and food and pleasure, before harsh reality comes crashing home. Beautifully photographed, with superb set design and a lush John Adams score.

Saw this and was pleasantly surprised. I thought the subtitles would distract me, but they didn’t. It was fabulous. Lush and beautifully filmed. From Tilda’s clothes to the lavish food, to the impeccable service staff, the richness of the characters and the film was evident throughout the entire movie! A must see!
Hated it. Terrible movie with lots of wasted moments showing pastel weed flowers and vague foggy hills. Very shallow characters. Hate to say this but Swinton is hard to look at. Discontinuous backgrounds that conflicted with each other and added nothing to the theme or plot. Poor casting except the lesbian daughter seemed to resemble Swinton, her mother. Swinton’e lover had poor romantic values, actually no values except he liked to fornicate with Swinton. Film quality seemed like 16mm.
Can’t think of any redeeming qualities.
Fascinating how tastes differ, as illustrated by the above comments. I cannot wait to see the film. I am impressed by the NYT review http://movies.nytimes.com/2010/06/18/movies/18iamlove.html
and by the favorable comments beneath…
I must agree with Bill. This movie was all bluster but no show. When I went to see this movie I did not expect to see a porno show.
