Broken Embraces – Spain – 2 hr 8 min – Pedro Almodovar – w/subtitles
Almodovar’s latest is his fourth picture with Penelope Cruz. About a writer who was blinded in an auto accident (for starters), this gorgeous film is half noir and half melodrama. Its intricate plot is enhanced by gripping performances, stunning cinematography and Almodovar’s usual stylistic flair.

When is Broken Embraces going to be showing at the Ambler Theater? Did it already show?
Broken Embraces will be at the Ambler soon. No set date yet, though. Sometime in early Feb is our best estimate. Crazy Heart is next up on Jan 29.
National chain theaters are already playing this film.
The AMC megaplex at Neshaminy Mall had “Broken Embraces” from January 15-21. The Regal megaplex in Oaks (off US 422) will have it starting tomorrow.
Crazy Heart was FABULOUS! No wonder Jeff Bridges was given the Golden Globe for Best Actor!
Who wants to see a significant film at a national chain theater? The Regal in Warrington improperly projects independent/foreign titles in their tiny ancillary theaters – the top and bottom of the frame are projected onto curtain, every time, without fail. Ambler/County have clearly stated why they must sometimes wait to show a film. I have no problem affording them a little patience, but then I like seeing movies I consider big in venues that also consider them so.
