Babette’s Feast is not only a stunning film, it won the 1987 Foreign Language Academy Award, but it is one of the greatest food movies ever made. The movie culminates with an incredibly lavish meal that will leave you drooling. We are thrilled to be bringing this classic back to the big screen and also bringing Babette’s divine meal to life.
We are excited to be working with two incredible chefs Drew Abbate from The Vine and Fig Tree Bistro and Joesph Koye of Wild Blue Creative Catering, who will be recreating variations of the eponymous feast. While they cannot include the exact items Babette used (1840’s wine is a little hard to come by and a little out of our price range), each chef will be presenting a meal very closely inspired by the one in the film.
Babette’s menu begins with an amontillado and features “Potage à la Tortue” (turtle soup); “Blinis Demidoff au Caviar” (buckwheat cakes with caviar and sour cream); “Caille en Sarcophage avec Sauce Perigourdine” (quail in puff pastry shell with foie gras and truffle sauce); a salad featuring Belgian chicory and walnuts in a vinaigrette; and “Les Fromages” featuring blue cheese, papaya, figs, grapes, pineapple, and pomegranate. The grand finale dessert is “Savarin au Rhum avec des Figues et Fruits Glacées” (rum sponge cake with figs and glacéed fruits). Numerous rare wines, including a 1845 Clos de Vougeot, along with an 1860 Veuve Clicquot champagne and spirits, complete the menu. 1
On March 8th, the lobby of the Ambler will be transformed by Chef Koye as he presents his interpretation of this meal. On March 14th, Chef Abbate will transform The Vine and Fig Tree Bistro (across the street from The County) into a candle-lit version of the movie with his own take on the film’s signature dishes.
Seats are limited for both meals: Ambler has capacity for 45 diners and The Vine and Fig Tree Bistro only holds 30. Reserve now and be part of this incredible movie and food experience.
The screenings begin at 5:45 and will include a complimentary glass of wine and hors d’oeuvres. Dinner will be served at 8pm immediately following the screening. Tickets are available online for both the movie (which includes wine and appetizers) and the full movie and feast package.
Chef Joseph Koye is the Executive Chef and Owner of Wild Blue Creative Catering. In his cooking Chef Koye believes that only the best and freshest ingredients should be used. Chef Koye and his Culinary Team have catered special events for the Philadelphia Eagles, Nascar, Bloomberg Financial Network, Ambler’s Oscar Party, and various other clients.
Chef Drew Abbate draws his inspiration for Vine & Fig Tree from the informal celebrations that took place in his grandfather’s backyard, filled with long tables of delicious food, trees strung with lights, homemade wine, and the laughter of family and friends.
