UK/Canada – David Cronenberg – 1 hr 33 min
Cronenberg’s latest film is about Carl Jung, Sigmund Freud and the birth of psychoanalysis. It stars Michael Fassbender and Viggo Mortensen in the leads and Keira Knightley as Jung’s hysterical patient (and future colleague, Sabina Speilrein). Shaking off the dust of a period piece, the film tackles psycho-sexual issues and professional ethics with a directness that feels entirely contemporary. Precise and lucid in its approach, A DANGEROUS METHOD is elegant movie-making.
